Email Scams: What to watch for + what to do

Updated: 2 days ago

ree

I can’t tell you how many “Is this real?” emails I see. Most times… it’s not. 😬

Scammers love to copy Wix and and have even created fake Jeffers Media email accounts. They grab the logo, copy the style, and pressure you to act fast.

Same pattern as fake emails “from” GoDaddy, PayPal, or your bank.

A recent scam example

Subject: Immediate Action Required – Do Not Ignore

Dear WIX User,This is a 24-hour follow-up regarding the security alert previously shared with you (Ticket ID: #00834931). Our scans continue to detect potential malware injection……XSS risks… hidden redirects… blacklisting…Since Wix runs on a closed platform, resolving this requires intervention from our security team. To proceed, reply with: “Confirm Support”We will start an advanced scan and remediation (DNS WAF, MFA, SSO). Your prompt response is critical…Wix Site Protection Team

Looks scary, right?

Why this is fake

  • “Ticket ID” with no real account details

  • Heavy pressure and fear language

  • Asks you to reply by email to “confirm support”

  • Drops random security terms to sound smart

  • Sender email is often not a real @wix.com address

Logos and design do not prove anything.

The usual scare lines

You will often see things like:

  • “Your account will be shut down.”

  • “Click to renew now.”

  • “Update your payment information.”

Ask yourself: Who benefits if you panic? 👀

Rule #1: do not click links 🛑

If something feels off:

  • Open a new tab

  • Go to wix.com and sign in

  • Click the bell icon for alerts

  • Check Billing & Payments

  • Check Domains and Subscriptions

If you see no alert inside your account, that email is junk.

Quick red flags 📬

  • Weird “from” address or slightly misspelled domain

  • Demands action “right now”

  • Odd grammar or generic greeting

  • Requests for passwords, codes, or full card numbers

  • “Reply to this email to fix it”

Ask yourself:

Protect your account 🔐

  • Turn on 2-Step Verification for your Wix login

  • Use a strong, unique password

  • Never share codes or passwords by email or text

  • Never add a collaborator to your website without verifying they are real with a Zoom call (with video)

  • Only update payment details inside wix.com after signing in

How to report a phishing email

You help protect yourself and others when you report.

Do this for any suspicious message that claims to be from Wix or Jeffers Media:

  1. Do not click anything in the email.

  2. In your email app, open the message.

  3. Look for an option such as:

    • “Report phishing”

    • “Report scam”

    • “Report spam” then choose phishing if available

  4. Click that option so your email provider can block similar messages in future.

Most major email services (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud) have a “Report phishing” button in the three dots or “More” menu on the email.

Send a copy so I can review it 📧

After you report the email in your inbox, please send it to us so we can keep track of new scams and patterns.

You can keep the subject line as is. Do not edit the content. Just forward it as you received it.

This helps:

  • Confirm whether it is fake

  • Alert Wix to ongoing scams

  • Improve future filtering and protection

If you already clicked or replied

Take action right away:

  • Change your Wix password

  • Turn on or confirm 2-Step Verification

  • If you entered card information, call your bank and watch for unfamiliar charges

  • Run a malware scan on your computer

  • Mark the email as phishing in your inbox and delete it after forwarding
